OpenType fonts use a single file format. You can use any TrueType font as an OpenType font—in fact, this is how most large TrueType font libraries are released. InDesign lets you edit and publish PostScript, Type 1 and Type 3 fonts, including OpenType TrueType and PostScript fonts.
InDesign supports OpenType features in Type 3 fonts but not in Type 1 and Type 2 fonts. InDesign does not support Type 3 font features, such as small caps, alternates and ligatures. You can create and edit Type 3 fonts in Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks. You can then convert them to OpenType formats and use them in InDesign.
While InDesign is not compatible with OpenType features, text editing and some design applications, such as Illustrator and Fireworks, use advanced OpenType features, such as ligatures, small caps and italics. Adobe's Fireworks software has included OpenType font support for several years. In addition, OpenType format fonts can be used in InDesign. A font with OpenType features can be imported directly into InDesign.
All Macintosh and Windows operating systems accept TrueType fonts, and many applications that create or edit documents also use them. InDesign does not support TrueType fonts, but they can be used in Photoshop. In addition, Photoshop does not support the OpenType feature set in InDesign. In most cases, the OpenType feature set is equivalent to TrueType, except for small caps and old-style figures.
Lightweight TrueType Collections for Mac OS X and Windows are built from the same font files and designs as the heavier.ttc files that contain multiple fonts in a family. Fonts are made available in a variety of weights and styles to help users of all platforms find the right font for a specific application.
I am running a PC with Windows 7 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. I am wondering how to end the trial period and convert to a full copy of Photoshop CS6. I tried closing down Photoshop, which produced a message telling me to return the disk. I did that, but the same message returned. How can I end this?
