The album cover art was revealed on June 2, 2008 on Nas' Twitter page. The image depicts Nas looking into the camera, with his hand covering his crotch, his left hand on his hip and his right hand by his left. Although the original artwork depicted Nas wearing a white suit jacket over a black suit, a final version of the jacket was used for the final cover. In the final version, Nas wears a black suit jacket over a light-colored dress shirt.[6]

The untitled tenth studio album by American rapper Nas, commonly referred to eponymously as Nas, or simply Untitled, was released on August 20, 2009 by The Jones Experience and Def Jam Recordings. Its original title Nigger was omitted due to controversy surrounding the racial epithet. The album is distinguished for its political content, diverse sources of production, and provocative subject matter. The album features guest appearances from Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Busta Rhymes, and The Game, among others. The album was released simultaneously on iTunes for the first time in Nas' career, and was released on CD for the first time as well.[8]

Guest artists featured on the album are Busta Rhymes, Keri Hilson, Game, Chris Brown, Mulatto and Mykel. Although Jay Electronica produced the introductory track, he does not have a verse on the album, as previously stated by Nas.

Prior to the release of Nigger, Nas did an interview on the radio with Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex, which was posted on the station's website. In the interview, Nas talked about the album, his relationship with Def Jam, and the title.
