Zen Studios released Pinball FX 2 on the Xbox 360 on October 27, 2010. It was later released for Windows on October 28, 2010, and for PS3 on January 13, 2011. It was released for the PlayStation Vita on February 22, 2011. It was later released on the Xbox One on March 11, 2013. Zen Studios later announced that it was working on a sequel to Pinball FX 2, which was officially named as Pinball FX 3.

The Toys-to-Life genre was not introduced until 2013's Zen Pinball 2, however Pinball FX 2 includes a feature called Powerspin Toy that allows players to activate the ball to perform different actions. The actions available to use are - destroy, rotate, zoom, change color, and scan.

The music and effects in Pinball FX 2 were composed by Mark Van Hecke who has designed soundtracks for several other Zen Studios games, including World Pinball Tournament and World Pinball Championship.
