Students wanting to join St. Teresa's College are required to sit for an entrance test. The timing of the test is at night, so most of the students are fast asleep. Two of the students, though, are trying to help a friend cheat the test. They are Arvind and Shiva. They succeed in cheating the test, but the school management catches them at it and send them out of the college.
From the flashback, we see Yogi fighting with the school management for the facilities and equipments needed for an athletic college. The students are also not keen on the hand-me-down equipment. Since the college's sports facilities lacked proper support, Yogi makes an expensive deal with a company from Lucknow to bring in a brand new gym, swimming pool and a table tennis table in time for the Sports Day. The compromise made by Yogi is that the company will bring in a brand new college for the school and the residents of the village will be relocated to make way for the college.
The college is named St. Teresa's College and is run by Yogi. The college has a main hall, the gym and dormitories with separate rooms for boys and girls. The class system has been abolished in the college. Students are put in groups based on their discipline and performance in the athletic activities. The groups are called Houses. Yogi is the Principal and a couple of faculty members are also in charge of the college. Their names are Pandey (School Principal) and Pandey's wife, Sujata (who handles the secretarial work). Sujata's brother-in-law, Shiv Kumar (who works as the library assistant) has also joined the college. There are three Houses: the Spartan, the Warrior, and the Servant. The Spartan House is more active and is known for its hockey (i.e. hockey as a sport) and cricket teams. The Warrior House is known for its football team. The Servant House is known for its volleyball team. The college's hockey team is a major source of pride to the community. The Servant House has many talented players, but does not perform well due to financial constraints. The school's cricket team is very well-organised and takes part in inter-collegiate tournaments. The Warrior House also wins inter-collegiate tournaments. The Servant House is the last team to be fielded in tournaments.
