So when I try to download a movie from iCloud to my iPhone 6s Plus, it only gives me 2 download options: Standard Definition or HD 720p. It won't let me download the 1080p versions. Yes... I have gone on iTunes and MADE SURE I checked the box to prefer 1080p over 720p. Then I signed out of iTunes on my iPhone and signed back in and it still is downloading in 720p. For example, I just downloaded Deadpool. It has three quality options: 1.74 GB (SD); 3.87 GB (720p HD); 4.18 GB (1080p HD). So the movie is 100% available in 1080p. Now... When I go to the purchased section on my iPhone and try to download the movie, it only gives me TWO options: the SD one at 1.74 GB, and an HD one at 3.87 GB. So it is still defaulting to the 720p version, not the 1080p one. This is only an issue for my iPhone 6s Plus. It downloads the 4.18 GB 1080p version on my iPad Pro, heck, even my 5th generation iPod touch gets the 1080p version and it has a sub-720p screen. I'm guessing this is just some bug that is so picky most people won't notice. Everyone out there - is this happening to anyone else? If you have purchased an HD movie and download the HD version from the purchased section, does it download the 720p version or the 1080p version?
a) All of these movies show up in my list of Purchased items in iTunes.b) All of these movies have the "Download from the Cloud" icon in the Purchased items list.c) Changing the HD video preference to 1080p in iTunes Store Preferences and re-downloading the movies does indeed give the 1080p version! (Where available, not all HD movies have 1080p versions, some top out at 720p.)d) I have now downloaded three movies that came with this disclaimer twice each; once at time of purchase and again last night.
At this point, my best guess is that the disclaimer about a movie not being "available in iTunes in the Cloud" has to do with streaming from the cloud to an iOS device or AppleTV. It does not appear to affect re-downloading in other HD formats.
Typically, a Blu-ray movie takes up about 25GB to 35GB of storage. This is far too much data for most people to stream or download using iTunes, so Apple compresses movies to about a tenth of that size.
A digital movie takes up no physical space and, unless you keep all your movies downloaded, you don't even need any digital storage to stream it. What's more, all your movies are always with you, anywhere in the world that you can get online.
There's also no getting up to change the disc in the Blu-ray player. If you want to watch a digital movie, all you need to do is select it in your library and hit play. Sure there might be a slight delay while you wait for the download or stream to buffer, but it's still quicker than changing the disc and waiting for a Blu-ray to load.
It's also worth remembering that one of the most common "bonus features" for Blu-rays is in fact a digital download code. So it's entirely possible to avoid choosing between physical and digital movies if you pick your purchases wisely.

The more common culprit of buffering is a weak or intermittent internet connection.
