The USB standard has evolved significantly since its inception in the mid-1990s. The original USB 1.0 offered a data transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps, primarily used for connecting peripherals like keyboards and mice. Subsequent iterations, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, marked substantial advancements in speed, reaching up to 5 Gbps for USB 3.0. The introduction of USB-C, with its reversible connector and usb data cable ability to handle higher power loads, further enhanced the versatility of USB cables. USB 4.0, the latest iteration as of my knowledge cutoff in January 2022, promises even greater speeds and improved efficiency.
